Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What hardware is supported?
NextWave currently supports the Meta Quest 2™, the Meta Quest 3™, the HTC VIVE™, and HTC Vive Pro™ headsets. See our module catalog for further details. If you have headsets you would like NextWave to support please contact us at info@nextwavesafety.com.
How to cast?
To cast via the Meta App: Meta Support Website
To cast an HTC VIVE: Connect an HDMI cord from your computer (that is running the software) to a monitor of your choice.
How do I find my training content?
For Meta Quest™ headsets: After the content has been downloaded via Arbor XR, in the Meta Quest home screen find and press the “library” tab on the bottom of your display. Once open, find and press the “All” dropdown menu and select the “For Work” option. All of your training content will appear.
For HTC VIVE™ headsets: (This depends on folder and .exe locations— please follow the exact locations we give in instructional documents)
How long does the battery last (Meta Quest)?
The Meta Quest 2/3 has 2-3 hours of usage time while fully charged. Additional accessories are available for the Meta Quest to extend the usage time.
Can I restrict access to only training content?
Yes! To restrict access to only training content you need to put the headset in “Arbor XR Home Mode” within the “Headset Experience” tab inside the Arbor XR portal.
When is a good time to deploy the VR in the classroom?
NextWave’s training content is designed to be a versatile training tool in the classroom. While there is no “right” way to use the content, here are a few suggestions:
- Can be used as a pre-assessment to gauge the knowledge level of each learner.
- Can be used as a post-lesson assessment or recap of traditional classroom learning.
- Can be utilized as an engagement tool for the “dryer” parts of the curriculum or when an instructor notices a dip in learner engagement.
- Some can be used to assess if a learner will be able to handle some of the environmental stresses of the real-world working environment.
- Can be used to reinforce a specific learning segment
Do I need an instructor?
While an instructor is by no means necessary to engage with NextWave’s VR training library, it is recommended that one is present to help learners and reinforce the classroom curriculum.
Do I need WiFi?
WiFi is needed to download NextWave’s training library but it is not needed to start each training module. There are casting solutions for environments with and without WiFi connections.
How much space do I need?
A 10’ x 10’ space is recommended for each headset*.
*Some content may need additional space because of the amount of physical movement required to complete the module. Always make sure learners have enough space to move in the virtual environment without coming into contact with one another.
Do I need an IT team to set this up?
The Meta Quest and HTC VIVE series of headsets are consumer products that can simply be set up without the assistance of IT professionals. However, if you are setting up headsets in an environment with a strong internet firewall you may need to contact your IT professional.
How many headsets can I use at the same time?
Space permitted, as many as you would like.
Can my students see each other in the headsets?
At this time there are no modules that support multi-user interactions.
