DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING COURSES

The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) has specific rules regarding construction safety training. At NextWave Safety, we provide training for construction professionals working on construction jobsites in New York City. Department of Buildings courses review DOB safety requirements as specified by Building Code Chapter 33. Through our certified training organization, United Safety Academy, our construction safety group offers various NYC Department of Buildings safety certification programs from our seasoned industry professionals at our training centers.

We are a DOB-approved course provider and we offer concrete courses, cranes and derrick courses, safety courses, and scaffold courses. All site safety managers and site safety coordinators are required to successfully complete the necessary courses that their job entails. NYC DOB is always updating its requirements for safety certifications in New York City, so it’s vital to ensure that you’re up to date on all training requirements, including Local Law 196. 40-Hour Site Safety Manager

This course is one of the pre-requisites an applicant must successfully complete before being eligible to apply for Site Safety Manager Certificate Examination. In addition, this course fulfills the training course requirements for Site Safety Coordinator and Construction Superintendent Certification in New York City  $650*

  • To obtain a Site Safety Manager Certificate, the applicant must complete & submit to the Licensing Unit a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by the NYC 2014 Construction Codes – Title 28 General Administrative Provisions, Chapter 4 Licensing & Registration of Businesses, Trades & Occupations, Article 402 Site Safety Manager Certificate §28-402.2–Qualifications. 
  • To obtain a Site Safety Coordinator Certificate, the applicant must complete and submit to the Licensing Unit a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by the NYC 2014 Construction Codes – Title 28 General Administrative Provisions, Chapter 4 Licensing & Registration of Businesses, Trades & Occupations, Article 403 Site Safety Coordinator Certificate §28-403.2 Qualifications. 
  • To register as a Construction Superintendent, the applicant must complete & submit to DOB Licensing a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York §48-03.

8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher

This course is a renewal requirement for the holder of a NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator Certificate. This course is also a required course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card.  $225*

  • To renew a Site Safety Manager Certificate, the applicant must complete 8 hours of refresher training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York § 104-06 Continuing Education Requirements. 
  • To renew a Site Safety Coordinator Certificate, the applicant must complete 8 hours of refresher training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York § 104-06 Continuing Education Requirements.
  • In order to continue to operate in the City of New York, the designated construction worker is required to complete a minimum number of hours of approved site safety training and to carry site safety identification cards as proof of completion of the training (As per New York City Local Law 196 of 2017 also known as ‘LL196’ or ‘Local Law’). This course provides eight hours towards the satisfaction of that requirement.

  • To obtain a Site Safety Coordinator Certificate , the applicant (a Registered Architect, a Licensed Engineer or an applicant who has 5 years of construction supervision/safety experience including 3 years supervising major buildings) must complete and submit to the Licensing Unit – a certificate of completion for 8 hours of training as mandated by the NYC 2014 Construction Codes – Title 28 General Administrative Provisions, Chapter 4 Licensing & Registration of Businesses, Trades & Occupations, Article 403 Site Safety Coordinator Certificate §28-403.2 Qualifications.
