DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING COURSES

The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) has specific rules regarding construction safety training. At NextWave Safety, we provide training for construction professionals working on construction jobsites in New York City. Department of Buildings courses review DOB safety requirements as specified by Building Code Chapter 33. Through our certified training organization, United Safety Academy, our construction safety group offers various NYC Department of Buildings safety certification programs from our seasoned industry professionals at our training centers.

We are a DOB-approved course provider and we offer concrete courses, cranes and derrick courses, safety courses, and scaffold courses. All site safety managers and site safety coordinators are required to successfully complete the necessary courses that their job entails. NYC DOB is always updating its requirements for safety certifications in New York City, so it’s vital to ensure that you’re up to date on all training requirements, including Local Law 196. Safety Courses

30-Hour Concrete Safety Manager ($500)

This course is a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertain to public protection for concrete construction. The purpose of the course is to initiate prospective candidates with safe job practices for New York City major buildings where 2000 cubic yards of concrete are to be poured. During the course, students will be introduced to the hazards of working in New York City and the specific methods and work practices that are necessary for concrete construction in urban areas.

30-Hour Concrete Safety Manager

This 10 Hour OSHA Outreach training is designed to promote workplace safety and health, making workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. Emphasis is placed on the role of the construction worker in hazard recognition and avoidance, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

8 Hour Silica Awareness Course ($200)

In this awareness-level safety course, you will learn about the basics of Silica and Respirable Crystalline Silica Dust encountered during construction activities.
Additionally, you will learn the contents of the new OSHA regulation concerning silica and respirable crystalline silica.

16-Hour 7600 Disaster Site Worker ($225)

The course is crucial for those who supply support services such as debris removal, utility and public works repair, demolition, heavy equipment operators, and other construction trades. Primarily targeted to the trades, this course helps participants distinguish between health and safety hazards found at a typical construction jobsite from those at a disaster work site. This course covers topics such as inspecting jobsites, using air-purifying respirators, and disaster site worker safety and health and to raise awareness that pre-incident training is essential to ensure worker safety and health in response to disasters.

8-Hour Hazardous Waste Operation ($225)

This 8 Hour Hazwoper training program consists of a synopsis of the core elements of an occupational safety and health program including emergency response plan and procedures. Additional course topics to be explored include proper use of air monitoring devices and appropriate use and hands-on demonstration of PPE. Besides live lecture and instructional videos, the program includes discussion of pertinent provisions of EPA standards or laws, decontamination equipment and procedures, and review of air and contamination monitoring equipment. The training concludes with a class interactive task where students are asked to apply the information and materials that were provided during the course to mock hazardous scenarios.

30-Hour Construction Safety Course & General Industry ($550)

This program includes OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles. The training will place emphasis on those areas that are most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. This program is more applicable for the construction supervisor, with an intensified focus on various occupational safety and health standards. Course participants can expect to be able to locate and identify OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1926, identify common causes of accidents and fatalities in hazardous areas of construction, recommend abatement techniques for such hazards, and recognize various construction processes, materials and equipment.

8 Hour Confined Spaces ($200)

This course covers the safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. Course topics include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, use of instrumentation to evaluate atmospheric hazards, ventilation techniques, development and implementation of a confined space program, proper signage, and training requirements. This course features workshops on permit entry classification, instrumentation, and program development. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify permit and non-permit required confined spaces, reference the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard, conduct atmospheric testing, and implement a permit-required confined space program.

24-Hour Ergonomics ($750)

This course covers the use of ergonomic principles to prevent musculoskeletal disorders. Topics include anthropometry, video display terminals, work physiology, musculo – skeletal disorders and risk factors such as vibration, temperature, material handling, repetition and lifting and transfers in health care. The course features industrial case studies covering analysis and design of work stations and equipment, laboratory sessions in manual lifting and coverage of current OSHA compliance policies.

24-Hour Excavation, Trenching & Soil Mech ($625)

This course focuses on OSHA standards and on safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Students are introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and un-shored slopes and walls of excavations. Various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic) are covered.

24-Hour 3110 Fall Arrest System ($675)

This three-day course will provide the participants with an overview of state of the technology for fall protection and current OSHA requirements, including the principles of fall protection, the components of fall arrest systems, the limitations of fall arrest equipment, and OSHA policies regarding fall protection. Course Objectives: Identify various types of fall protection and their components; Recognize fall hazards and identify abatement methods for fall hazards; Define the proper use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems; Select proper standards for citation purposes.
